Shopping Guide →

Look for “Certified Humane® Pasture Raised” on the carton. You’ll find plenty of options at most grocery stores, and it’s one of the easiest switches to make.

Switch your Eggs

1

Look for USDA Organic, pasture-raised, or 100% grass-fed dairy products. Organic dairy cows are required to spend meaningful time grazing on pasture, making this one of the easiest swaps to make.

2

Switch Your Dairy

This makes a large welfare impact. Look for “Pasture Raised”, G.A.P.® Step 4+, or Animal Welfare Approved®. Pasture-raised chicken can be harder to find – our Shopping Guide can help.

3

Pasture-raised pork is still relatively hard to find.  Look for “Pasture Raised,” G.A.P.® Step 4+, or Animal Welfare Approved®. For sourcing, your best options are local butchers who source whole animals from small farms, online delivery services, or buying directly from a farm at your farmers market. Check our Shopping Guide for specifics.

4

This one is easier. Look for grass-fed, 100% grass-fed, grass-fed and grass-finished, or pasture-raised beef and lamb.

You don't have to do all five. Start with Step 1 this week and see how it feels.

There's a better way.

Our food system has gotten pretty far from nature. Most meat, dairy, and eggs come from animals raised in conditions that don't match what we'd like to imagine, or what the packaging suggests. Labels are confusing by design, and finding products from animals actually raised outside is harder than it should be.

There's another way. Pasture-raised products come from animals raised outdoors, on real land, the way farming used to be. It's better for the animals, for the planet, and for flavor. Eat Pasture Raised provides the information you need to find these products. We'll help you sort through marketing promises to easily understand which items were raised right.

We know there's a lot going on in the world, and it can feel like your choices don't matter. We think that small decisions can spark real change. Feeding your community, your family, and yourself is a fundamental part of what it means to be human. Being intentional about that work can lead to a better world for us all — one purchase at a time.

This is the easiest swap and one where you'll taste the difference immediately. Look for Vital Farms or any egg carton labeled "Certified Humane Pasture Raised" (most grocery stores carry them).

Swith your eggs

1

Look for "100% grass-fed" on milk, yogurt, and butter. Brands like Organic Valley, Stonyfield, and Maple Hill are widely available.

2

A swap that makes a huge welfare impact. Look for GAP Step 4+ or AWA-certified at your grocery store, or order from one of our recommended online sources.

Switch Your Chicken

3

This one takes a little more work — pasture raised pork is hard to find. For sourcing, your best options are local butchers who source whole animals from small farms, online delivery services, or buying directly from a farm at your farmers market. Check our Shopping Guide for specifics.

4

Look for "100% grass-fed and grass-finished." Grass-fed beef is generally easy to find, and most grocery stores carry at least one grass-fed option.
